There’s a gulf between the gang
End to end it spans the full length of the club
Prowling purists and noxious freethinkers
Stripping the pleasure away from the art
A knot of cheerless students lead the way
Engaging in some skittish attempts at coercion
Both sides try to field the call
But someone’s always pipped to the post
Come on, Show a little comity
You’re losing the whip
Some bleary-eyed, no-necked monolith
Spills a drink and suddenly we’re away
The weekend’s rifts forgotten in an instant
Brothers in arms, and fists and teeth
Or at least until some Darcy and his entourage
Ask for a joblot to last them for the week
Frantic thumbs in wallets and pockets
Tripping over bodies to seal the deal
Come on, show a little comity
You’re losing the whip
It’s the same however you frame it
It goes around and around and around
once you’re privy to what goes on above you
It hard to ever go back down

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

Terrific, marauding post-punk that will thrill fans of Idles with its pairing of cutting riffs and wry spoken/sung lyrics. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 26, 2022
